“Kevin and Jodi genuinely seem to love the kids, but it was not Jon’s idea to bring them to the big house this weekend without Kate there. [It was] the team’s,” the source explains. “Once he thought about it, he knew the kids would love it and it would irritate Kate. Jon gave them a call and invitation to get them on his side.”

Fox411 has this tasty little tidbit fresh out of the oven this morning. Speculation has been rising over whether or not Jon has finally decided to play the good boy and stop acting like a total tool. He even started talking with Kate’s brother and sister-in-law! Wow! Jon must really be turning his life around!

But, like with all things too good to be true, it looks like Jon is just trying to pull a PR fake on us. Here’s an excerpt from the Fox411 article:

It turns out Jon Gosselin is on a major press offensive that’s planned to continue for weeks to come, in which he will try paint soon-to-be-ex Kate as a bad mom, and himself as a hapless victim, Fox411 has learned.

But for all the behind-the-scenes machinations taking place, it turns out the main player is not even the main man behind the PR strategy, says a source inside the Jon and Kate Gosselin drama.

The insider tells Fox 411 that Jon is simply doing whatever his “team” recommends. Jon’s backers include girlfriend Hailey Glassman (daughter of Kate’s plastic surgeon), his publicist, lawyers and even Lindsay Lohan’s dad, Michael Lohan. They have convinced Jon that the best strategy going forward is to continue to make Kate look like the controlling woman he thinks she is by constantly calling the paparazzi and speaking to the cameras, says the source.

OK, sounds like a sweet gig to me. Jon should manage to rake in a little dough to cover all that partying up at his expensive NY condo. Any media attention still counts as attention, right? At the very least, the station did offer to cover expenses and even send a limo. Sweet!

But it sounds like Jon’s gotten a little too big for his britches. Jon’s reps wanted to charge the station a whopping $10,000 for the interview. Holy moly! The rep justified this outrageous price saying that Jon’s ”name and appearance on your show will instantly draw press…and will be a high point for the show.”

I’m sorry. 10 grand to have a media skeazeball appear on my morning radio show? Pass.

Not that the big day didn’t have a few bumps in the road. Jon was sent to pick up the cake, and lo and behold, Mady’s name was misspelled. No big deal, but for whatever reason, people just don’t like seeing their names misspelled on birthday cakes. I know I’m one of them.  Supposedly, an unnamed female caller placed the order for the cake and added an extra “D” in Mady’s name.

The bumps in the road did take a slightly more attention whoring twist in the form of Jon’s publicity antics. The suspicion is that Jon tipped off some photographers about the time of the party (and his presence at the home, of course) in exchange for some moolah. Radar Online has the riveting footage of that little stunt. In the video Jon claims he’s just stepped outside to “make a phone call”. Riiight. I’m beginning to think that Jon has “paparazzi-sense”. He can feel the presence of a camera up to five miles away (and then wastes no time jumping in front of it).

Is anyone else creeped out by the two “Team Jon” fans in this video? They even had T-shirts made! Ewwww. If it were me, I’d be weirded out by strangers coming to my home wearing my name on a shirt. But not Jon. He seems completely unphased as they discuss their rad shirts while he signs them. Words are not enough to describe my feelings about this. Just know that it makes me supremely uncomfortable.

The video is mercifully short (I don’t know how long I could take Jon’s emo, monotone replies to the media hounds crowding his fence). Jon eventually pulls out his phone to make that call that he ostensibly intended to make in the first place, then slowly begins wandering back towards the house.

So there you have it. I can only hope for the kids’ sake that their birthday went as smoothly as it appears to us.

Overall, I have to agree with our sign toting friend here on the left, but will this really help? Given the many comments left here on this site, along with the hundreds of other websites covering the Jon and Kate saga, pretty much everyone agrees at this point. The kids are a constant worry. But it seems having protesters right outside the door is only going to exacerbate the situation. If these people care so much about the 8’s mental wellbeing, then they need to just go home. Or can we surmise that they are simply yet another group of people looking to glean their 15 minutes off of this family fiasco?

I suppose after watching Kate being a bossy witch with her family, it’s just too easy to paint that picture elsewhere.

A Today Show spokeswoman denies that all this happened, and that Kate was always a welcome guest. The Chicago Sun-Times had this to say on the subject:

Long known for her nasty attitude — especially toward people she thinks can’t talk back — Kate Gosselin added to that hard-bitten reputation Monday while at NBC’s “Today” studios for an interview with Meredith Vieira.

She was ”a total b—-” to almost everyone, said a longtime NBC staffer. ”We get virtually all of the world’s biggest egos coming through here,” added the source. ”But Kate was one of the most unpleasant I’ve seen in working here for many years.”

That is strongly disputed by a “Today” spokeswoman who said Monday night that Gosselin “is always welcome at ‘Today,’ and it is unfortunate that anyone would make these accusations, which couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Another staff member said that when Gosselin learned there was a chance the cameras might catch sight of the large entourage accompanying her (likely to illustrate how much her life has changed by becoming a celebrity on ”Jon & Kate Plus Eight”), ‘’she strongly hinted she would walk off the show” before the interview.

•    •    As Gosselin was departing the “Today” set at NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Center headquarters, she was overheard trashing Vieira — ”which is even more crazy,” added the second source. ”Meredith very clearly, and in a straightforward way, asked exactly the questions you’d expect. She asked about the alleged affair with her bodyguard — which really seemed to p— [Kate] off — her relationship with Jon [Gosselin], how her kids were doing and whether ‘if you could do it over again, would you?’ ”

”She was swearing like a drunken sailor as she stormed out,” added the insider.

The “Today” spokeswoman, who was not with Gosselin after she left the studio, stressed that from her perspective, “Kate Gosselin was a gracious guest on ‘Today,’ and anyone within 1,000 feet of her at the show this morning could tell you that.” (source)

Well, well, well. Perhaps this means the end of the limelight for Jon and Kate. If you go on to read the rest of the article, you can see that it sounds like this new couple are real down-to-earth, likable people. Unlike Jon and Kate who pretty much looked like money grubbers from the start.

But I’m still doubtful of this new couple. The same question arises here that did for Jon and Kate. What kind of parents would sell out their lives with their children and parade around for the world to see? Perhaps the Masches will start out thinking that they won’t be changed by the publicity, but I doubt that will stay the case for long. Take heed, Bryan and Jennifer, and tread wisely. You’re sailing into dangerous waters.

When Kate and the kids arrived, photographers tried to take her picture but were blocked by security guards. An eyewitness tells Us, “Kate’s security held up these huge umbrellas and white tables to try and block the photographers from getting pics.”

The kids were happy to see their father, but right after the shoot ended, Jon bailed to go wine and dine magazine reporter Kate Major. So once again Jon shows his colors. Couldn’t spend any extra time with his children. The publicity stunt was over and schooom, Jon was outta there.

Well, denial or no, things certainly are looking steamy.And we’ve all heard this song and dance from Jon. He denied anything between him and Hummel, but we all know how that turned out. I, for one, will not be surprised if we see more of this new Kate.
