The Gosselins (and everyone they have touched) have proven that it is possible to extend your 15 minutes of fame into all-out celebrity-hood. I think Kate Major proves my point nicely. She starts out as a nobody reporter bimbo for Star magazine, has a seriously sketchy fling with octodad Jon, and from there, she’s set. Major has managed to float in and out of the tabloids consistently since Jon broke it off with her.I’m sure the news has reached your ears of her recent engagement to former Jon bro-buddy Michael Lohan. Is there anything this girl won’t do to get on the front page?

And don’t even get me started on Jon’s escapades or his recent lawsuit against Kate for the custody of the children. Who’s he kidding? I wouldn’t trust him with my dog, much less kids. I’ve just gotta chalk this one up to yet another publicity stunt. He has been on the back burner lately – I guess he thought it was time to make waves again.

But I digress.

Of course, I’m really here to talk about Kate’s new show, “Twist of Kate”. As I understand it, Kate has managed to land, not one, but two shows on TLC. First, Kate Plus Eight will relaunch (sans Jon of course). This gives the eight yet another chance to have all of America watch as they work their way through all the embarrassing moments of childhood (and beyond in to puberty, perhaps?).

Second, we will all be treated to more Kate Gosselin in Twist of Kate (which sounds like she’s going to be served “on the rocks”). The new show will have Kate hosting as she highlights strong woman figures and their journeys through adversity. My understanding of the show makes it sound like one big Kate worship fest.

Yahoo! News:

“Twist of Kate” will follow the reality star and supermom as she visits the homes and workplaces of her subjects, where she will exchange insights for living.

Her subjects?? I know we’ve all called her a “queen” bee, but seriously, she’s no royalty.

I don’t even want to bother with her “insights”. Go with the $5,000 hairdo, or splurge on the $7,000? Hmmmm….

“Jon’s in pretty serious financial trouble because his plan for making money was shut down in court,” the insider said. “He has warned his lawyers that he can’t pay them and if he doesn’t succeed against TLC, he will have no funds. He’s even gone so far as to say that if they want to be paid, they will have to sue him.”

After TLC cut off Jon’s main source of income – public appearances – Jon began his counter suit and overall whine campaign against the network. He made claims that without interviews and public appearances, he would quickly go broke.

Huh, guess he wasn’t lying.

Recently the info hit that Jon is now in a tight spot financially, even to the point of threatening to not pay his high dollar, Michael Lohan-recommended lawyers.

Oops. I’m sure that’s not making him any friends.

The inside source who’s spilling the beans makes claim that despite his money troubles, Jon is making no move towards finding an alternative source of income. This person highly touts Kate’s responsibility when it comes to money and expresses relief that it is her in charge of the family funds.

So yeah, that sure didn’t take long for Jon to blow through his share of the reality show money. Less than 6 months and the man is broke. And I heard quoted that the +8 couple could make approximately 75 grand an episode, though granted that was for later seasons after the show picked up viewers. They were much cheaper when they first started filming.

I guess Jon has found out the hard way that trips to France and Manhattan apartments just don’t come cheap, and that cash cows like sextuplets don’t last forever.

Yesterday morning Kate Gosselin was spotted at Finch’s Restaurant in Raleigh, North Carolina, but she wasn’t dining in. Observers were able to see Kate bustling about the restaurant serving food.

Interesting.

Her body guard Steve Neild spoke to the ever curious press, telling them that Kate was doing some “test” filming for a future project.

One can only guess this has something to do with the new show that Kate will be hosting this spring. My question is, what does food service have to do with it? The impression that everyone has had about the new show is that is will be following the talk show formula. Can’t say that I’ve seen many talk show hosts slumming it as a local waitress.

Kate logged about 3 hours as a server at Finch’s. However, pictures are limited – as soon as the photographers were noticed by Kate’s entourage, they had the restaurant close their blinds to end the picture taking.

We wait with bated breath to discover what this little experiment was all about. Meanwhile, on the Gosselin home front, the kiddies are beginning to stress over the conspicuous absence of the camera crew. Kate revealed that during one drive home from school, they kept tearfully asking ‘Where’s the camera crew?” and saying “We miss them”.

Actually, this is perfectly understandable. All Kate’s obvious attention-grabbing attempts aside, I can’t say that I’m surprised to hear that the children miss their crew. These children have had these people by their side and giving them attention virtually their entire lives. I’m sure that they view the crew as a form of extended family. I can imagine that it would be hard on the kids to suddenly have “family members” disappear.

However, I’m not going to call the crew back. Even though we all have our doubts as to how sincerely concerned Jon was about his children (versus just being spiteful), I can’t disagree with his decision to kick the cameras to the curb. Right now all the kids see are kind cameramen, and the episodes are akin to home movies. It’s only later in life that they will realize the atrocious breach of privacy they experienced during a crucial part of their lives. Their parents allowed a window into their childhood privacy through which the entire world could watch, and those very same men each held a pane.

As the eight grow older, those “home movies” will lose their shine. The kids will be able to watch and read between the lines a bit better. And in doing so, they will have perfect record of their parents’ marriage falling apart and the tension goaded on by TLC. I’m sure those happy memories will be sullied by this knowledge.

“Two different entities sought to solicit his services [for Super Bowl ad spots], but in my view, they were scared of TLC,” says attorney Mark Heller. “In my view, it was a mean-spirited act on [TLC’s] part.” (E! Online)

So far, it’s looking like the answer is no. Or at least, there’s no life after spending 3 years gaining a loyal and interested fan base, then ticking them off beyond comprehension by running around like a teenager experiencing mid-life crisis.

Yup, Jon has that formula down.

However, Jon has managed to get a couple takers wanting to slate him for Superbowl ad spots, but TLC moved quickly to block those deals from becoming reality. Jon’s shot at Superbowl fame went the way of his Ed Hardy children’s line and TV concept Divorced Dads.

Yesterdays dispositions went without a hitch. Kate Major was able to fill us in on the sad details of Jon’s hopes and dreams to promote motorcycles and stackable furniture, along with the clothing lines. I get the motorcycles, given the “bad boy” image Jon so desperately wants to convey, but why the stackable furniture?

Because nothing says “domestic convenience” like a teenage wannabe d-bag with multiple girlfriends.

BFF Michael Lohan told all in his deposition yesterday, much to the detriment of Jon’s case. He had plenty to tell regarding all the contract-breaching deals he and Jon made over the summer. Lohan himself already has put his money on a different horse, saying that he thought that TLC had a “strong case” and that he “definitely [didn't] think they’ll lose”.

Glad to know Jon has friends standing by him.

It’s looking like the big TV network, TLC, isn’t wanting to drag out this messy Gosselin business any longer than it has to. Word has it that both court dates that the network has arranged with Jon have been moved up. When they convene this month, it won’t be on the original agreed date of December 14th, but December 10th instead. Other dates have been changed as well.

Radar Online reports that the two parties held a status conference on Tuesday morning in Montgomery County, Maryland to discuss matters. Sources say that the judge announced to move the hearing for a preliminary junction, and the trial dates were changed as well.

Jon Gosselin now has to face the court on April 19, 2010, instead of the former 2011 decision. It will still be held in the same venue, as TLC pursues its suit of the father of eight for breach of contract. (Buddy TV)

That’s a whole year early. Will Team Jon have enough time to have their statements ready and their documents in order? As I understand it, he is countersuing TLC for a whopping $5 million. I can only assume the judge is going to want to see some pretty solid reasons to want to award that to Jon.

Well, we certainly shall see how this goes. We don’t have long to wait.

Despite many forums chock full of people claiming that they would refuse to watch the final episodes, ratings were up for the Jon and Kate Plus Eight finale. Up by a few million. Approximately 4.3 million people parked their TV sets on TLC to watch the final episode. That is way up from the usual 1.2 million or so that have been tuning in over the fall.

Of course, last night’s ratings didn’t come close to topping the 10+ million viewers that the great announcement episode brought.

From now on, the most you will be seeing of the Gosselin eight will be in daytime reruns, since Jon blocked the planned reincarnation of the show. I’m sure we’ll hear more from him in the coming months, and of course, Kate has her new show slated to launch next year.

I guess that works out for her. She hasn’t exactly been keen to let the spotlight go, saying that she was sad the show was “cut short” .

This Monday marks the end of Jon and Kate Plus Eight. Originally this would have been the end of the joint custody reality show with filming including Jon. The plan had been that from this point on the show would be branded simply Kate Plus Eight, filming would be minus Jon. But the octodad threw a monkey wrench into TLC’s TV gears and called off filming, saying that the cameras were hurting his kids.

So what does TLC have in store for its viewers?

According to US Magazine, this last episode will treat us to two separate outings with the kids – one with Jon and one with Kate. Jon will be taking them to a fire station, and Kate will cart the kids over to local dairy farm.

As if these kids haven’t had enough family outings. But hey, I guess they’re more interesting to watch than Kate emasculating Jon at the grocery store.

After this, we shouldn’t see any more of the Gosselin family for a while. The word is that TLC will be focusing on the production of Kate’s new show until it launches in early spring.

What will the end of the show mean for the Gosselin family? Will we continue to see them in the news, or will they finally be allowed to fade back into obscurity? Obviously we will be seeing more of Kate, since she does have another show slated with TLC. Hopefully she will be satisfied with that amount of media exposure, and from here on out, won’t see it necessary to involve her children with anymore show business.

But what about Jon? He whined that regular employment was no longer an option for him, due to the flock of paparazzi that shadow his every step. Will that still be a problem when the show ends? We all know exactly how skilled Jon is at attracting media attention. There was also the rumor that he and BFF Michael Lohan were putting together a new reality show tentatively called “Divorced Dads”. With the end of his TLC contractual obligation, will Jon once again pursue that avenue of income?

So many questions, and no real answers. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see what Jon and Kate decide to do. The ball is in their court.

Do you have any thoughts on how this saga will end? Go ahead and jot them down here in the comments.

Last night’s episode titled “Broken Dreams, Broken Promises, Broken Episodes” lived up to its *cough* optimistic name. It sure was “broken” alright.

The footage originated from various episodes already edited and aired. So essentially, this show was just the unwanted scraps, much like that 59 cent hot dog seen eternally spinning in the gas-station hopper.

To add insult to injury, these editorial hot dogs were edited to put Jon in a very unfavorable light. I guess TLC has completely jumped onto the Kate bandwagon, and pitched Jon under the wheels. There is no mistaking who’s side they are on after last night.

Kate was pretty much allowed the run of the show and she took every opportunity to let Jon have it. If there was blame to throw, she threw it. Hard.

During the segment about the dogs, she all but flat-out said it was Jon’s fault that the family had to get rid of them. She blamed him by implying that it was his job to train them, and that he was just plain lazy and didn’t do it. She also let her catty side out by saying that Jon needed a collar instead of the dogs.

Classy.

Naturally Kate whined about Jon not spending enough time with the kids, and that Jon is putting his own selfish needs before them. The viewers were treated to heartless footage of Jon ignoring requests for popsicles in order to talk on his cell phone or him chatting up the paparazzi over the family’s fence while the children beg to go swimming.

Of course, amid all this Jon bashing, we have to have some Kate glorifying. Cue in the book signing segment. What’s more entertaining than watching Kate being gushed over by adoring fans? Actually, a lot of things. How about paint drying?

Oh, and don’t forget the self-congratulatory segment of Kate (and not Jon she so graciously pointed out) serving dinner at the Ronald McDonald House. That was so PR fake it was sad.

Along along, the TLC crew can be heard kowtowing and laughing at every lame joke Kate fires their way.

Pretty much a summary of the whole episode could be boiled down to this: TLC and Kate wanted to throw Jon under the bus and attempt to soil his already tainted reputation, all the while buffing Kate’s image until it shined. It was so obvious it was painful. Given the fact that it seems like Jon has been trying to ruin his image (and being quite successful, I might add), this whole episode was a petty and unnecessary stunt to pull. Why not take the high road and not stoop to mudslinging?

As I said, Jon was doing a perfectly good job all by himself making him look bad.

Jon has one more complaint to add to his lawsuit with TLC. Now the bad boy octodad is stating that, due to the publicity he’s been receiving since the divorce, he is now no longer able to get a “regular” job. He claims that the ubiquitous paparazzi hinder the employment process.

“I find myself unemployed and without the ability to secure non-entertainment related engagements because the enormous Media interest, cameras, reporters and public interest makes it impossible to carry on normal daily activities, let alone find, secure and maintain a job with an employer who is willing to be exposed to the daily Media intrusions that has impeded by life.” (Examiner)

Hang on while I get my violin.

One could certainly argue that this is his fault. I’m sure he wasn’t unhirable before the much publicized divorce. And even then, I’m sure his chances at employment were not dreadfully hindered after the announcement.

No, I think he’s shot himself in the foot. After spending a summer and fall ruining his own reputation, and getting plenty of media coverage for his troubles, I think that only now is he beginning to realize that there’s no free lunch. You can’t just turn the publicity on and off like your kitchen faucet. And now that all the juicy media coverage that Jon previously enjoyed is getting in the way of him “having a normal life”, he’s upset.

Poor baby.

So what does Mr. Jon Gosselin do when he realizes that his rotten behavior has brought him nothing but trouble?

The reasonable thing. He sues TLC.

Right. Because it’s all TLC’s fault that Jon went around sleeping with anything that walked. So that means it’s also TLC’s fault that he was photographed at every party site between here and Las Vegas?

Look, he and Kate made an agreement to place themselves in the public eye when they signed up to film the show. Once in, it’s hard to get out. And you’re not going to make it any easier on yourself if you run around like a total jackass – drawing media attention like moths to a flame. For those who thrive on entertainment reporting, this kind of behavior is irresistible.

So buck up little Jon. You made your bed, now sleep in it.

Following Michael Lohan and Hailey Glassman’s subpoena, we now have the pleasure of Kate Major being thrown into the mix. Recently it was announced that she also had been issued an subpoena in Jon Gosselin’s court case. Those who have been following this reality TV mess will remember her as Kate 2.0. Over the summer she and Jon had a bit of a fling, causing her to quit her job at Star because she felt her interest in the octodad caused “conflicts” with her job.

Of course he dumped her shortly after she quit.

Kate 2.0 has managed to surface in the ocean of tabloid gossip a few times since her public fling – stretching that 15 minutes of fame as far as it will go. This little event should tack on a few extra for her.

We will be hearing all three’s depositions on December 10th.
